Nearly three years ago, Gov. Nikki Haley came to Orangeburg to announce an effort to have each of the state's 46 counties certified as having skilled employees who are ready to work. Orangeburg and Calhoun counties are still working to be certified as South Carolina WorkReady communities, while Bamberg County was certified last December.

WASHINGTON - A White House conference Friday will include discussions about a new program in St. Louis to train non-traditional workers through apprentice programs in construction, manufacturing and other trades.
Seven counties were recognized today for achieving certification through the South Carolina Work Ready Communities (SCWRC) initiative. The counties are: Barnwell, Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Lee, Lexington, and Marion.
